Fantasy Fiction

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern is epic and perfect for people who enjoys fantasy stories and loves books. Erin takes you through door and down the rabbit hole (or elevator in this case) in a tale about the myths, fate and the importance of books.

The story follows Zachary who, after finding an old book in the university library containing a story of his childhood, becomes entwined in an quest to find the truth behind the book and the people who want to take it from him. His adventure takes him to a hidden realm under the Earth’s surface. To the heart of a mysterious labyrinth of a library and to the Starless Sea.

Zachary’s story is intermingled with fables and myths. Some appear unrelated, but as the story continues their importance becomes clear. And they all converge on a stunning ending. It is a long book so you need to love fantasy and be ready for some reading. But this tale is a wonderful homage to books and book lovers. A wonderful story to curl up with.

The Starless Sea

A beautifully written book. One of the longest I have read, but it is a lovely book to lose yourself in. It contains everything you need for an adventure – love, swords, Fate, magic doors, metaphorical pirates, and much more. Perfect reading for the winter nights. A wonderful book for if you want to ‘be somewhere else for a little while’.

Find more about Erin Morgenstern on her website. And if you can’t wait for The Starless Sea you can read her first book Night Circus, which is out.
