How To Make Your Lunch Break More Sustainable

As a nation we are becoming increasingly aware of our impact on the world and how even our smallest decision can affect the world around us. This is why we choose ethically sourced, recyclable (and often recycled) gift wrap. And this is why we have added a few sustainable food storage and carrying items to Home of Juniper. Ways to use less plastic, and more reusable protection. Here are a five of our favourites:

BAMBOO STRAWS

Plastic straws are thrown away in the millions and take hundreds of years to decompose. It would be hard to miss the current anti-throwaway plastic movement. Here are our favourite alternative to plastic straws, bamboo straws! A brilliant idea, which have a charming benefit of making you feel like you are on holiday in a exotic location. These even come with the equipment to wash them, making them re-usable and decomposable. These natural straws are great for everyday use, or to be brought out on special occasions.

We also have metal straws, if you want a more contemporary look.

FOOD WRAP

A wonderful replacement for cling film, foil and other throw-a-way food wraps… and it doubles up as a mat to eat off. Perfect for wrapping lunchtime sandwiches. The sustainable, cotton wrap is lined with a water resistant liner. Machine washable, it easy to wash and re-use, ready for the next days lunch.

And it is really pretty.

INSULATED BOTTLE

A contemporary bottle, great for keeping your favourite drink hot, or cold, all day long! Not that it would last that long with us. This wonderfully designed bottle is made from BPA free stainless steel. Double-walled thermos, meaning the drink is kept hot or cold and the bottle is watertight. The contemporary thermos will keep drinks at temperature for up to 12hours for hot drinks or 24hours for cold drinks. Perfect for travelling with, or using on an everyday basis. A more sustainable way to drink on the go.

COTTON SHOPPER

We know you probably have at least one of these already, but this is a gorgeous bag. It is designed in the UK and made fair trade. Perfect to use for shopping and not having to use plastic bags. The print is hand screen-printed onto the cotton shopper. Inspired by the Mithila Art from South Nepal, showing daily life in rural villages. A lovely deep teal bag with a black print design on. Happy Shopping!

STAINLESS STEEL FOOD CONTAINER

Great to use as a lunch box, a snack tin or to store food in. Not only does this contemporary tin look cool, it’s reusable nature means that it is sustainable. We have a few different styles of containers in. A range for snacks and lunch or just storing. We love the elegant design and the use.

With Pancake Day coming up on Tuesday it is all about food this week… and love! These are just a few of the ways you can use sustainable products in your every day life. We would love to hear about sustainable tips you use in your everyday life.
