A while a go we discovered Heiter Magazine. A beautiful world of stunning images, interesting  dialogue and heiter (German for cheerful). A bilingual magazine that tells stories and news in both English and German, intertwined with elegant images. We spoke to the editor of Heiter, the talented Katharina.

Can you tell us about Heiter magazine and what made you want to start Heiter Magazine?

Heiter magazine is a bilingual collective that is centred around the search for the heiter (German for cheerful) things in life. The idea behind the project was born at the beginning of 2016. I always wanted to create content that made me happy and gave me the chance to express myself.

Is writing something you have always been interested in?

Yes, I have. I studied Fashion Media & Communication at LCF and a large portion of my studies Journalistically inclined. Throughout my professional career I have held positions where writing made up the majority of my workload.

A bilingual magazine is quite unusual, is this something you are passionate about? And did you ever consider not making it bilingual?

I am Austrian, my husband is British. We lived in England for several years and re-located to Germany last year. Our everyday life is bilingual and that was the inspiration behind heiter. When working on the heiter concept I also learned about a big English speaking community in Berlin as well as German speakers in the UK. There is no lifestyle magazine that caters for that audience so I was even more motivated to keep it bilingual.

What do you take your inspiration from when writing?

Nature & the changing seasons, exhibitions I visit, interesting people and emerging businesses, topics I cannot stop thinking about.

Do you have any highlights from running Heiter so far?

The pilot print version was exhibited at the University of the Arts London last year which was great. I am also grateful for the amazing people I have met through the project. Social media has had a big impact on that.

Heiter flows beautifully with the seasons. What is your favourite thing about Autumn?

I would say collecting leaves on nature walks and cosy afternoons at home with a big blanket, candle light and tea.

What is coming next for Heiter?

More blogposts and hopefully the chance to get the printed magazine published.

Autumn is a lovely time of year. And we think it is the perfect time to start following Heiter Magazine, as it follows the changing seasons in an effortless and cheerful way. A gorgeous magazine with a beautiful ethos – spreading joy with images and words. So add a little positivity as the air gets colder.
